Real Estate sales to foreigners restarted PDF Yazdır E-posta

The long awaited new bill was adopted by Turkish parliament on July 3 allowing foreigners again to buy properties in Turkey. Still transfers are not possible to date until the bill has been officially made public. This has to happen in the next 3 months and until then no transactions will be permitted.

These are the most important points of the bill:

  1. Foreigners and foreign foundations will be able to own up to 10 percent of land within a building scheme. In case of liquidation of foreign companies in Turkey, the legislation will apply certain limitations which will enable foreigners to buy land in strategic and important areas only through special permission.
  2. The Council of Ministers will be authorized to determine the sales of land in areas of importance to infrastructure water and energy supplies) economy (e.g. Mining), environment, agriculture and culture e.g.(religious and/or historical sites).
  3. Foreigner wanting to acquire a real estate in military-restricted areas will need permission from command headquarters that are authorized by the General Staff.
  4. Real estate in security areas will only be available to foreigners through a special permission of the related governor's office, the legislation states.
